RESTAURANTS & TAVERNAS

Every experience eating out in Syros has its own atmosphere and style. Imagine dining amid the neoclassical architecture of Ermoupoli or in the alleyways of medieval Ano Syros. Or perhaps you’re in a seaside taverna by the beach, or in a restaurant of Ano Meria in the rugged and mountainous north. These are the settings for many of the restaurants and tavernas of Syros.

In Ermoupoli, in the narrow streets and by the port (within sight of the prestigious Vaporia district), there are restaurants serving traditional meze and local dishes. Or maybe you’re in the mood for fine dining or a cocktail bar that serves bar snacks. You’ll find what you’re looking for in Ermoupoli, day or night.

In Ano Syros, there are restaurants with terraces overlooking Ermoupoli and the sea. And in the alleyways and the little squares (especially in the Piatsa), there are mezedopolia (specialising in meze) with live music and eateries serving traditional sweets.

What better way to end a morning or afternoon on the beaches of Galissas, Kini, Azolimnos, Finikas and Voulgari than a seaside taverna serving Mediterranean cuisine and seafood? Posidonia village, in western Syros, has seafood tavernas that make the beaches of Agathopes and Komito even more alluring. Or you can visit Posidonia for dinner wherever you are staying in Syros.

Finally, there is Ano (Apano) Meria, the hilly northern part of Syros. In the village of San Michali (famous for the cheese of the same name) there are wonderful restaurants (one higher end and one with more authentic cuisine). Locals come here for lunch or dinner at weekends. The views over the rugged landscape and vineyards towards the endless Aegean Sea are of the Cyclades islands at their best.
