Agios Nikolaos "of the poor" is located in Ano Syros and during recent renovations bones and graves were found dating back to the 16th century. It is the oldest temple of the island whose name derives from the last century when its revenues were disposed to support the poor of Eroupolis. It is a small, single-aisle church with a pitched roof and an impressive Bell Tower.

The assumption is the second oldest church on the island and was built behind the harbor in 1828. It is a three-aisled Basilica with impressive architecture and decoration. The Interior is adorned with elements from wood and marble while the domes create a wooden frame that looks like an overturned boat. What stands out is the authentic icon of the assumption from 1562 painted by Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco), making the Church one of the most important sights on the island.   [gallery ids="963,966,969"]  

The cultural and Athletic Club of the Northern Greeks of Syros "Megas Alexandros" was established in 2003 and its name changed in 2012 into The Association of the Pontiacs & Northern Greeks, an organization made by inhabitants of the island originating from the Black Sea, Macedonia and Thrace. Today the Association organizes local championships, theatrical workshops, book presentations, events, seminars, creative workshops, dance workshops, concerts, lyre lessons, theatrical performances for adults and children, exhibitions, social events and sporting activities all reflecting the distinctive character of Northern Greece.
